SLO Brew Tropical P.O.G. Hefeweizen Cali Squeeze
Canned. No Date. ABV 5.4%
Apperance: Unfiltered, Merky, Hazy, Finger and half-width soapy head
Aroma: Orange Peel, Slight Guava, Wheat
Palate: Orange Peel/Zest, Slight Malt
Finish: Sweet, Tart
Experience: I was picking up some beer for my wife and I this one jumped out at me as something that she would like a lot. Also, it has been getting hot here in Fresno and it is about to be a stretch of 100+ degree weather. This beer sounded refreshing for the summer heat. I will admit my wife and I both were disappointed that it didn’t have more tropical flavors. As we let it sit out for a bit we started noticing some guava hints but not a lot. It taste more like a traditional hef (similar to a Blue Moon). I am not a huge fan of hefs just because they tend to upset my stomach but I wanted to give this one a try. My score is based solely on what it is, a hefeweizen. Score: 4/5.
Moonraker Brewing Company Zam Bone Imperial IPA
Canned 5/20/20 (reviewed 6/18/20). ABV 8% IBUs 50
Appearance: Hazy, Straw, Guava Juice, Finger width soapy head
Aroma: Tropical, Pineapple, Mango, Papaya
Palate: Grassy, Hop throughout, Balanced mouthful
Finish: Dry mouth, Bitter
Experience: It has been a while since I have taken notes on what I am tasting when drinking a beer. Normally I will go through sight, smells, taste, and finish of the beer in my head or friends and then just enjoy the beer. So it did take me some time to get back into taking notes. I will get into the rhythm soon. Initially, I assumed this beer was going to be more on the boozy side being an imperial IPA but not at all! It was very earthy, grass, and full of hops. This drank more like an IPA because of the lack of any boozie notes. Grade 5/5!
Sierra Nevada Cherry Chocolate Stout
Bottled. No Date. ABV 8.5%
Appearance: Black, Finger width head of root beer float head.
Palate: Cola, Cocoa Nibs, Cherry
Finish: Sweet, Dark Chocolate Bar, Hint of Coffee, Tart Cherry
Experience: Really looked forward to trying this beer. My boss surprised me with this beer. He picked it up in Chico. This was a really good beer that took me about an hour to finish because I savored every ship. This reminded me when I’m pairing red wine with chocolate and letting that chocolate sit and melt on my tongue (that was the flavor on the palate). Grade 5/5!
Sierra Nevada Know Good IPA
Bottled 8/9/17 (reviewed 9/4/17). ABV 6.2%

Palate: Hops, Citrus
Finish: Sweet, Smooth, Crisp
Experience: Wow! What a really well balanced IPA with good ABV to drink all day. My mind is blown away by the aroma of this beer and the taste is leaves on my palate. It is such a refreshing, hoppy IPA. This is one of the best IPAs I have had (definitely top 10). Grade 5/5!
Revision Brewing Co. What What (Dubious) DIPA
Bottled. No Date. ABV 9.1% IBUs 85
Appearance: Slight Hazy, Amber, Finger width fluffy white head.
Aroma: Dank, Lemon Zest, Orange Peel
Palate: Hop Heavy (YES YES YES!!), Light Malt
Finish: Dry Mouth, Smooth
Experience: Thank you Revision! You are on my list for go to beers when I need an amazing IPA. This is everything I was in an IPA; light malt, strong hop smell, and presence. You would not know that this was a 9.1% because it is so smooth with a little malt. Grade 5/5!
Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry IPA
Bottled. No Date. ABV 7.2%
Appearance: Slight Hazy, Dark Amber, Thin light head.
Aroma: Malty, Toasted Nuts
Palate: Malt, Slight Stonefruit
Finish: Sweet, No Hops, Little Sour, Apple Juice
Experience: From my experience, Dogfish Head tend to have a strong malt backbone but was hoping for more hops (any hops).Overall, was not super stoked on this beer. I will continue to try beers from this brewery because they do make good beer just did not enjoy this beer. Grade 3.8/5.
Sierra Nevada Pronto IPA
Bottled. No Date. ABV 6.7%
Appearance: Slight Hazy, Amber, Finger width of white soapy head.
Aroma: Citrus, Floral, Earthy
Palate: Mango, Tropical Fruit, Grapefruit
Finish: Carmle, Toasted Nuts, Bitter (Grapefruit peel)
Experience: Been waiting for this one to come into work. Sierra Nevada brewed this beer just for our company. Says it’s an ale brewed with mango and hibiscus. This beer lived up to the hype I had for it. The mango and hibiscus were more on the nose and the palate was a great balance of malt and grapefruit (hops). Over all really good beer and will have to pick up another bottle to enjoy. Grade 4.6/5.
Elysian Space Dust IPA
Bottled 30 June 12 (???). ABV 8.2%
Appearance: Hazy, Amber, Gold. Half finger of white soapy head.
Palate: Citrus, Lemon (Zest), Light Body, Slight Malt
Finish: Smooth, Sweet, Dry Mouth
Experience: Been wanting to try this beer for a while. Went with a lot of new breweries lately for my brew reviews. This was a good IPA profile that I like with slight malt backbone. The hope was more up front then disappeared across the tongue with a dry mouth finish. I wish there were a little more hops to go across my palate to the finish but overall it was a good beer. Grade 4.8/5.
Alpine Beer Company Duet IPA
Bottled. Best by 11/5/17 (reviewed 8/20/17). ABV 7%
Appearance: Slight Hazy, Amber. Half finger of thin soapy head.
Aroma: Pine, Malt
Palate: Malty, Sweet, Medium Body
Finish: Smooth, Slight Orange Peel
Experience: This was my first Alpine beer and I was excited to try it because of the hype that this brewery gets. I was not a fan of this beer and I don’t know if it was this specific IPA or possible a bad batch. This beer was all malt and I knew it once I smelled the beer. It was not terrible just wanted a little more after all the hype. I will have to try more from Alpine to see if I just had a bad batch. It did get a little better as it sat out and warmed up a bit. Grade 4.2/5.
Oskar Blues Brewery IPA
Canned on 4/25/17 (reviewed on 8/30/17). ABV 6.43%
Appearance: Slight Hazy (Cloudy), Gold (Straw). Half finger of thin white soapy head.
Aroma: Pineapple, Citrus, Earthy
Palate: Slight Pineapple, Citrus, Slight Malt
Finish: Orange Peel, Dry Mouth
Experience: I totally judged this beer before I had it. I thought it was going to be all malt and a disappointment. I was completely wrong. I was super pleased by this beer and all the characteristics that beer had to offer. Even after this beer being four months old had so much punch in flavor. I have learned more about “old” IPAs and the dating process. I do not think I will let beer dates on a bottle or can (if it is an IPA) affect my purchase decision. Grade 4.6/5.
