Moonraker Brewing Company Zam Bone Imperial IPA
Canned 5/20/20 (reviewed 6/18/20). ABV 8% IBUs 50
Appearance: Hazy, Straw, Guava Juice, Finger width soapy head
Aroma: Tropical, Pineapple, Mango, Papaya
Palate: Grassy, Hop throughout, Balanced mouthful
Finish: Dry mouth, Bitter
Experience: It has been a while since I have taken notes on what I am tasting when drinking a beer. Normally I will go through sight, smells, taste, and finish of the beer in my head or friends and then just enjoy the beer. So it did take me some time to get back into taking notes. I will get into the rhythm soon. Initially, I assumed this beer was going to be more on the boozy side being an imperial IPA but not at all! It was very earthy, grass, and full of hops. This drank more like an IPA because of the lack of any boozie notes. Grade 5/5!
House of Pendragon Brewing Co. All Haze Sir Lancelot NE Style IPA
Bottled. No Date. ABV 7%
Color (Appearance): Hazy, Pineapple, Orange Juice. Half a finger of white soapy head.
Smell (Aroma): Danky, Earthy, Slight Tropical Fruits
Taste (Palate): Citrus, Pineapple, Light Body
Aftermath (Finish): Dry Mouth, Bitter
Experience: Yes, yes, yes! This was such a great beer. This was my third hazy NE style beer from HOP and this was their best so far. I was happy to see that they brought down the ABV because that allowed for more flavors to come through compared to the last two I have reviewed. This beer was not overly juicy, more hop profile, smooth and a definite crusher. Out of our small selection of local breweries that we have in Fresno, HOP is becoming one of my favorites in town (sorry Tioga-Sequoia). I enjoy that they have a new brew every Thursday and they truly showcase a handful of different style of beers. Grade 5/5.
Bare Bottle Brew Co. Galaxy Dust IPA
Bottled. No Date. ABV 6.5% IBUs 58
Color: Hazy, Guava Juice, Finger Width Head
Smell: Tropical Fruits, Stone Fruit, Slight Dank
Taste: Hops, Peaches, Mango, Guava
Aftermath: Slight Dry Mouth
Experience: I have been waiting to try this beer since I got it early last week. It was everything I was hoping for and more. It had a great balance of fruit on the nose and smell with the hoppiness that I love from IPAs. I could drink this all day long! Grade 5/5.
Device Brewing Co. Curious Haze (a Northeast Style) IPA
Canned 7/7/17 (reviewed 8/7/17). ABV 7% IBUs 40
Color: Hazy, Pineapple Juice, Finger Width Head
Smell: Stonefruit, Peaches
Taste: Pineapple, Citrus, Slight Bitter, Light Body
Aftermath: Zesty, Slight Grapefruit, Orange Peel
Experience: My dad got me a 4 pack of this beer when he was back home in Santa Cruz. Been looking for a beer like this here in Fresno; Fresno pick it up! This was an awesome beer from a brewery I never heard of but want more beer from. This style of beer I am really into right now and they hit all the things I like about style of beer. Grade 5/5!
House of Pendragon Force Ghost NE Style IPA
Bottled. Released 7/22/17 (Reviewed 7/24/17). ABV 6.8%
Color: Hazy, Tangerine Juice, Half Finger Width Head
Smell: Pineapple, Mango, Tropical Fruits
Taste: Grapefruit, Pineapple, Juice, Hops
Aftermath: Mango Pineapple Juice
Experience: I am loving the special releases the House of Pendragon (HOP) is putting out. The tap room is only 3 minutes from my house! So that makes it even better. They have been doing such a great job with these hazy New England style IPAs. Makes me dig this style of IPA a lot. Compared to their last release this one has no alcohol taste at the end. Like I have said before I am new to the hazy style IPAs so I am all about them and they are a great introduction to people who may not like IPAs. The only criticism about this beer is I wish there were a little more hop profile to it. But other than that great beer! Going to try and pick up another bottle or two for myself and brother in-law. Grade 4.8/5.
Peak Organic Brewing Co. The Juice Pale Ale
Canned on 5/12/17 (reviewed on 7/13/17). ABV 5.6%
Color: Pineapple Juice, Hazy, Finger Width Head
Smell: Mango, Guava, Pineapple, Peach, Tropical Fruits
Taste: Floral, Hops
Aftermath: Dry Mouth
Experience: I’m in love, I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it (name that movie)! No, but really this beer is effing amazing! This is my summer time beer all day. The nose on this beer is ridiculous and the taste is so well balanced. I would think that this beer is an IPA but it is not and I have to say officially this is my favorite all time Pale Ale! I am just so blown away. We have many cases left at work and it is not really selling and that’s okay because that means more for me! Ha. Grade 5/5! First perfect score!
Some of you may wonder if I really call beer brews. I don’t. I use the term brew only when I am joking around with friends and ask for a brewski bra! Ha. But this blog is brew review vs. beer review for a couple reasons. One, website domain can look off and be written wrong with the double “rr.” Second, Brew Review flows off the tongue better than Beer Review. It also just looks better with the double “ew.” I have been told I have a visual eye and see things differently than others.
Okay, let’s get into the crew review. I wanted to compare the different style of Pale Ale’s and also wanted to try our two new limited time beers from Oskar Blues Brewery. We started with the Pilsner style then went into The Juice, Dale’s Pale Ale, and Sierra Nevada (to really compare).
Oskar Blues Mama’s Little Yella Pils
ABV 3.5% IBUs 35
Notes: Looked light, bubbly and like apple juice. Got citrus, malt and floral on the nose. Tasted sweet with lemon zest. Not a huge fan of pilsner and didn’t find this to be very exciting. Some of the crew members really liked and bought some to bring home!
Peak Organic The Juice Pale Ale
Notes: Poured out like pineapple and hazy. The nose had mango, papaya, and peaches. It was floral and bitter on the tongue. A dry mouth on the end. I was all about this beer! I will be doing a review in full later this week on this beer.
Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale
ABV 6.5% IBUs 65
Notes: Amber, Gold colored with malt and citrus on the nose. Medium body and could taste the malt. It had hops up front and toasted nuts on the pallet.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
ABV 5.6% IBUs 38
Notes: Looked like apple juice, amber colored. Had pine and citrus on the nose. Tasted sweet, light and refreshing.
I had a hard time comparing the last two pale ales. I couldn’t pick up a lot of notes in the nose and my pallet was a little off. The crew really liked the Pilsner and the crew favorite was THE JUICE!! This was my favorite as well and was stocked to try it again.
House of Pendragon Iron Patriot New England DIPA
Growler (filled 7/4/17, the first day released). Special Release. ABV 8%
Color: Hazy, Pineapple Juice, No Head
Smell: Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Citrus
Taste: Grapefruit, Tangerine, Pineapple, Juicy
Aftermath: Pineapple, Hoppy, Alcohol, Dry Mouth
Experience: I am just getting introduced to New England hazy style of IPAs and I am enjoying them! It also is a great style to introduce people to IPAs that are not huge on hops. They are juicy and refreshing. I want more juice bombs! But very unique to my pallet and I am enjoying trying different styles of IPAs.
